■ What is the Owner-Operator Program?

The owner-operator is a work permit issued under the federal Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). There is no annual quota on the number of work permits that can be issued.

A foreign entrepreneur who wants to live in a particular area of Canada, can purchase and run a business before the permanent residency is granted. It is a federal program and a much affordable immigration program compared to the famous US E-B5 program. There are a few details involved but the program is very workable under the good hands of licensed immigration experts.

To qualify as an owner-operator, the candidates must have:

  • Verifiable, transferable management experience.
  • Sufficient assets to purchase the targeted business in Canada.
  • Sufficient language abilities in either English or French to actively work as a manager in the business.
  • Controlling interest in the business. Own more than 50% of the shares and cannot be dismissed

Last but not least, is that the candidate must bring significant benefits to the Canadian labour market, such as, job creation, technology transfer and etc.
